<bio>Amanda received her undergraduate degree from the the Ohio State University. She received her PhD in health and social psychology from North Dakota State University in 2006. Currently, she is a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Behavioral and Decision Sciences in Medicine. Broadly, she is interested in how risk perceptions relate to decision-making and health behavior. Her studies examine the health-related consequences of unrealistic optimism and defensiveness/resistance to health messages. She also tests novel strategies to increase the accuracy of risk perceptions and promote positive health behaviors. Her hobbies include cooking, gardening, and taking regular strolls through any of Ann Arbor's 100+ parks. Of course, her absolute favorite thing in the world is spending time with her new (now 6-month old) daughter! </bio>
